Spurs have been strongly associated with Edmond Tapsoba, Micky van de Ven, and Victor Nelsson among others.

Despite that, one additional rumoured Tottenham defender, has now made a Premier League request publicly.

The individual being referred to is Jonathan Tah, whom was associated with Spurs during the summer by German publication BILD.

A recent report from Kicker claims that Tah ‘wants to depart from’ Bayer Leverkusen this summer in order to test his skills in the Premier League.

His decision was reportedly made in January, and he has stuck to it. This is even the reason he got a new agent during the winter.

In spite of Tah’s €18million release clause expiring earlier this month, his price tag is presumed to not exceed that amount, according to the report.

Kicker also cites the reported Spurs target as saying: “The market is still open. Anything can happen.

“Certainly, I appreciate what I have here, but I’m also open and willing to hear other options.

In addition to that, there was interest from other leagues as well, nevertheless, my goal has always been to play in the Premier League at some point.

“Because it’s simply the epitome of football. The idea of competing in the Premier League is quite intriguing, even at my age.”

Our interpretation

It could be that Tottenham needs more than a single defender to strengthen their unstable defense ahead of the new football season.

Fortunately, multiple premium centre-backs seem accessible and not prohibitively expensive either.

For example, Van de Ven reportedly has a £30million asking price, while the price tag on Victor Nelsson is presumed to be £21million.

According to the aforementioned report, Tah seems to be even more affordable, possibly costing slightly more than £15.4million.

Tottenham is now presented with a good chance to acquire a skilled, seasoned defender at a bargain price.

With 27 years of age, the 6ft 4in footballer is very much at his peak, moreover, he possesses a vast experience at the highest level of the sport.

The ‘powerful‘ footballer has over 300 senior appearances to his name for Leverkusen and has additionally received 16 caps for Germany.

Tah’s physicality and height would make him a strong contender in the Premier League.

His style has indeed invited comparisons to Virgil van Dijk and Dayot Upamecano, who are among the sport’s elite defenders.
