Arsenal is reportedly interested in defenders Marc Guehi and Edmond Tapsoba as potential summer acquisitions, with both players also on the radar of their rivals, Tottenham Hotspur.
In his article for Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones sheds light on Arsenal’s potential transfer targets.
Arsenal and Tottenham have already begun their transfer activities for this window.
The Gunners have already snapped up Kai Havertz from Chelsea and are on the verge of sealing two more deals.
Famous football journalist, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the signing of Declan Rice and Arsenal have also agreed to terms with Jurrien Timber.
Conversely, Tottenham’s new manager, Ange Postecoglou, has swiftly addressed some of their last season’s issues.
Hugo Lloris will be succeeded by Guglielmo Vicario as the goalkeeper and James Maddison will be added to inject creativity into the squad.
Both clubs are now shifting their attention towards bolstering their central defence.
According to Jones, Arsenal is keen on Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba.
Tottenham has earlier been linked with Guehi and is also seemingly interested in Tapsoba.
Both clubs would prefer to steer clear of a price war with their fiercest rival for the same players.
Guehi and Tapsoba on Arsenal’s radar
Jones, while talking about Arsenal’s transfer plans, said: ‘They appear to be attracted to Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.’
‘Additionally, they are evaluating Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba, RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan, and to a lesser degree, Perr Schuurs from Torino.’
The expected arrival of Jurrien Timber will ease the pressure on Arsenal to secure another central defender.
The Dutch international is capable of playing at the heart of the defence or as a right-back, similar to Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Spurs, on the other hand, endured defensive woes last season and are keen to acquire at least one new defender this summer.
While Cristian Romero is expected to retain his spot, Ange Postecoglou aims to bring in a new defensive partner for the World Cup winner.
If Spurs express interest in Tapsoba or Guehi, they would hope that Arsenal doesn’t join the competition for their signatures.
