Ange Postecoglou, the new Spurs manager, assigned 21-year-old Harvey White to a novel role at left-back during their pre-season training.
Renowned sports writer, Alasdair Gold, reported the story while observing the team train ahead of their pre-season friendly in Australia.

West Ham and Spurs will face off on Tuesday morning, and fans might get a glimpse of White’s new role. He has just returned from a season-long loan at Derby.
In the recent training session, Matt Wells and Mile Jedinak, two of the Tottenham coaches, focused on a defensive foursome composed of Djed Spence, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon and of course, Harvey White.
The defenders were drilled on quick passing just before goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman.
Previously, Spurs adopted a 3-4-3 strategy under Antonio Conte, but Postecoglou seems to prefer a higher intensity 4-3-3 format.
This could open up new positions for players like Harvey White, who might find an interesting new role at full-back, a position that João Cancelo popularized at Manchester City.
Harvey White’s comeback to Tottenham post Derby loan
White’s loan stint at Derby last season fell short of expectations, with him starting in just 15 games.
Despite a lackluster season, White has a fresh contract offer from Tottenham, and is contemplating his future footballing career.

If White decides to continue with Spurs, it appears he would face fierce competition for the left-back position against Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, Sergio Reguilon, Ivan Perisic, and currently injured Ryan Sessegnon.
Postecoglou also has a plethora of options for central midfield- a position where Harvey White has spent most of his career.
Even though there are rumours of Pierre-Emile Højbjerg potentially transferring to Atlético de Madrid, it seems unlikely that White would secure significant playing time in the central midfield position.
It appears that White’s future at Tottenham would largely be contingent upon his versatility and adaptability to perform in diverse squad positions.
