Ange Postecoglou Invites Promising England Youth Star to Train with Tottenham’s First Team

Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham Hotspur’s chief, has invited the promising young goalkeeper, Luca Gunter, to partake in the primary team training.

The young talent, who is also an England youth international at the age of 18, was seen interacting with the veteran players in a video shared via the official Twitter handle of the club.

The much-awaited launch of their Premier League contest is only a few days away for Tottenham.

With time being of the essence, Ange Postecoglou intends to fully exploit the training ground hours following the interference that occurred during their pre-season tour.

Preparation led by an unexpected game cancellation due to rain against Leicester City and a match against Lion City Sailors in place of AS Roma was far from perfect.

A complete first-team entourage couldn’t accompany Postecoglou owing to injury issues, and two more players were injured during the tour.

Tanguy Ndombele, though impressive in Postecoglou’s eyes, was unable to participate in any competitive engagements.

Additionally, a severe-looking injury was sustained by Alfie Whiteman in one of the sessions.

In the wake of these events, Postecoglou has selected the young Luca Gunter for training, as a potential replacement to Tottenham’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Though the likelihood of him participating at the season’s outset is low, the invaluable experience of operating with the main team would nevertheless be beneficial to him.

Gunter Joins Tottenham’s First Team for Training

In the video uploaded by Tottenham, the young player Alfie Devine is seen perfecting his heading skills.

Clearly annoyed by not being able to stop the two shots taken by his academy cohort, Gunter can be heard expressing his displeasure.

A national under-18 representative already, Gunter made his debut against the Netherlands in the previous season.

He was a part of three UEFA Youth League games for Spurs last year, aiding the team’s victory over Marseille in both matchups.

While being the first-choice goalkeeper for Tottenham’s Under-18s, Gunter has also been promoted to the Under-21s in a single event.

Being pitted against a sturdy Fulham side, he replaced Josh Keeley, another player who accompanied the first team on this year’s summer tour.

Gunter aims to leave a lasting impression during his training with Tottenham’s main team and hopes for opportunities to continue practicing with them throughout the season.

The ultimate goal for him is to prove his worth in the Under-21 squad or potentially go on loan.

Gunter’s future progress will significantly depend on his level of engagement in the coming years.

While he is still with the club, he will certainly benefit from the experience of cooperating with the likes of Guglielmo Vicario, Fraser Forster, and Hugo Lloris.
