Nigel Reo-Coker expressed doubts over James Maddison’s capability to manage the stress that comes with playing for Tottenham Hotspur.
In a discussion on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Reo-Coker was discussing Maddison’s upcoming arrival at Spurs. Despite his enthusiasm for the notion of Maddison joining the north London club, he expressed certain concerns.
Reo-Coker challenged Maddison’s mental fortitude, stating he is uncertain if the midfielder possesses the resilience needed to handle the weight of playing for a team such as Spurs.

Maddison might falter
Reo-Coker commented in-depth about the 26-year-old.
“While Maddison is an excellent recruit, can he truly grasp what it means to be a part of Tottenham? The level of pressure is different, and the expectations are higher as he’s been brought in to make a significant difference, moving them to a higher level,” Reo-Coker noted.
“He would be a good acquisition if he delivers consistently, but I question whether he has the personal strength to deal with this degree of stress. It’s worth considering his determination to keep in shape, stay healthy, and perform consistently.”

Proven Experience
Frankly, these remarks are somewhat baffling.
While certain players do buckle under the pressure at massive clubs, Tottenham, with all due respect, does not compare to Manchester City or Liverpool.
The fact of the matter is that James Maddison has already proven himself within the context of what Spurs are aiming to achieve.
Let’s remember, in two of Maddison’s initial three seasons with Leicester, the Foxes ranked higher than Tottenham as they competed for a top-four spot. Plus, he won an FA Cup during his tenure in the East Midlands.
Playing for a team like Tottenham is something Maddison is fully capable of handling.
