According to reports, Bayern Leverkusen is seeking a deal exceeding £42 million for the sale of Tottenham Hotspur’s prospect Edmond Tapsoba in the forthcoming summer.
As reported by German publication Kicker, it seems rather unlikely that Leverkusen will receive such a substantial offer in the upcoming weeks.
Tottenham has been prominently connected with Edmond Tapsoba as they aim to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s defence.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Tapsoba is the primary target of Tottenham for the centre-back position this summer, despite the speculation about Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg.
The 24-year-old center-back has demonstrated remarkable performance in the Bundesliga in recent years. Leverkusen is inclined to retain the player, and it appears that Spurs would need to meet their asking price to secure their top target this summer.
Leverkusen Sets the Price for Tapsoba at Minimum £42 Million
As per Kicker, Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen’s sporting director, has almost definitively rejected Tapsoba’s transfer this summer.
An offer surpassing 50 million euros (£42.8 million) will be required for Rolfes to reconsider his decision.
The publication suggests that Tottenham’s chances of making such a substantial offer for Tapsoba appear ‘very unlikely’.
Tapsoba is admired for his ‘outstanding’ speed and the skill to initiate play from behind.
As an international player from Burkina Faso, he appears to be a fitting choice for Ange Postecoglou at Spurs. However, it remains uncertain whether they can meet Leverkusen’s specifications.
Spurs urgently need to reinforce their defence as their pre-season friendlies have underscored their deficiencies.
Spurs have been pursuing Tapsoba and Van de Ven for a while now, but so far there has been no significant progress.
