Giovani Lo Celso, the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, has made his way to pre-season training with the Argentine defender Cristian Romero, marking Cristian’s first day back at the club.
On the official Instagram account of Tottenham, a video featuring various players arriving at the club’s training facility was shared.
Among the players spotted were new signings James Maddison and Manor Solomon, as well as Destiny Udogie.
Having participated in the recent Under-21 European Championships, the young Italian player returned to the club ahead of schedule.
Tottenham’s manager, Ange Postecoglou, seems eager to give all his players an opportunity during pre-season as he evaluates his new squad.
One player who has caught his eye is Tanguy Ndombele, who had a successful stint with Napoli last season, winning the Serie A.
The impressive performance of Ndombele means that Lo Celso might also get the chance to prove himself during Tottenham’s pre-season, after spending the previous season on loan at Villarreal.
Rumors are swirling about a potential departure for Lo Celso, who is valued at £27m, from Tottenham during this summer transfer window.
However, Lo Celso may have another shot at extending his spell with Spurs if Postecoglou takes a liking to him during the training sessions.
Lo Celso’s Comeback to Tottenham’s Training
The video posted by Spurs illustrates some of the players getting back into the swing of training post-holiday season.
While some return individually, like James Maddison and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, others arrive in groups, as was the case for the Argentine duo.
With unconfirmed reports about the future of several players, only Cristian Romero appears to have a secure spot as a centre-back at Tottenham for the upcoming season.
The search is on for a suitable partner for Romero, with Micky Van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba being potential contenders.
However, the arrival of Maddison could signal the end for Lo Celso at Tottenham.

Over the past few years, Antonio Conte’s Tottenham setup has largely excluded advanced playmakers, favoring instead two midfielders with a more defensive focus.
Considering this, Lo Celso was deemed a misfit in the North London-based club and the Italian manager contemplated a sale last summer.
If Postecoglou desires genuine competition for Maddison, he may see potential in Lo Celso during training and decide to retain the player at Tottenham.
Apart from Lo Celso, there aren’t many in the squad who can match up to the skillset of Maddison, the England international.
Should Maddison sustain an injury, Lo Celso could be the ideal backup, preventing Postecoglou from having to rearrange his setup.
