Top-notch central defender may be Tottenham’s subsequent recruit after the probable inclusion of James Maddison

Lyall Thomas, a Sports journalist for Sky, has provided a list of three players who Tottenham Hotspur could potentially aim to recruit following their purchase of James Maddison.

Ange Postecoglou has a significant task in the upcoming weeks, as he aims to shape a team that meets his expectations.

Tottenham has already been quick to secure Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli after announcing the signing just yesterday, and it seems that James Maddison will likely join the North London club soon.

In fact, just today Fabrizio Romano reported that Maddison is set to become a Spurs player for an estimated price tag of around £40 million.

However, it appears that Spurs’ recruitment drive won’t cease with the arrival of the Leicester City ace to North London, as they may now approach Edmond Tapsoba.

Tapsoba might be Tottenham’s upcoming recruit

After asserting Maddison’s impending transition to Tottenham, Thomas was asked ‘what’s next’ for Spurs.

The Sky Sports correspondent replied to the query on Twitter, citing Tapsoba among Tottenham’s main center-back picks, which also includes Micky van de Ven and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Tapsoba has already been strongly associated with a move to Spurs as part of their strategy to revamp their defensive unit this summer.

Just last week, The Sunday People reported that Tottenham have lodged a bid of £25 million to secure the Bayer Leverkusen defender.

After yielding 63 goals in the recent Premier League season, Spurs are noticeably in need of bolstering their defense. It doesn’t come as a surprise to see their focus shift to bolstering their defensive unit in the aftermath of Maddison’s acquisition.

With the future of Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier at the club in doubt, Tapsoba would make an excellent addition for Tottenham.

The stellar central defender has made his mark with Leverkusen in Germany over the last few seasons and seems perfectly suited for Premier League action.

At 24, Tapsoba checks all the boxes of a standard Spurs signing, and his more chilled defensive approach would perfectly counterbalance the fiery Cristian Romero.

Tottenham still faces the enormous challenge of slimming down an overcrowded squad. However, Spurs supporters will undoubtedly be enthused to see the club taking proactive measures in the transfer market.
