As this summer’s transfer window commences, Aymeric Laporte’s case stands out.

The positioning of the defender from Manchester City in terms of popularity at Etihad is wavering. While his skills are evidently top-notch, he hasn’t yet been snatched up by any club for this summer’s transfer.

The Talking Transfers Podcast host, Graeme Bailey, started off the summer with a prediction. He expected Laporte to be signed by either Tottenham or Aston Villa.

However, no such arrangement has happened yet. The primary reason – the footballer’s steep wage demands, considering his £57m worth.

Villa or Spurs Could Have Been Laporte’s Next Destination

Speaking about the Spanish international player, Bailey reveals his insider knowledge.

“Laporte hasn’t finalised his move, and initially, it seemed like Villa or Spurs were eager to take him on. Considering his handsome salary and the ‘Premier League tax,’ he’s asking for more money than Pau Torres or Van de Ven and Tapsoba, who Tottenham are assessing. So, it makes me wonder, is Laporte becoming a potential candidate for the Saudis?” shares Bailey.

A Potential Catch for Tottenham

Although Laporte’s remuneration is significant, it seems like Spurs might be overlooking a golden opportunity.

A left-footed centre-half, he would be an ideal fit for Tottenham given his exhaustive Premier League exposure.

Additionally, his record of success and understanding the essence of winning crucial matches make him a valuable catch.

Despite the challenging nature of this contract, as pointed out by Bailey, it is essential to remember that quality players like Tapsoba and Van de Ven might settle for a lower wage than Laporte. But, ultimately, the quality of a player determines his price, and Laporte, a top-tier athlete, would be worth investing in for a team like Tottenham.
