Alan Shearer Commends Daniel Levy for his Excellent Strategy with Tottenham

Alan Shearer lauded Daniel Levy for implementing a ‘genius’ plan when he locked Harry Kane into a six-year contract back in 2018.

Ex-Newcastle United forward Shearer discussed Kane’s continuing role at Tottenham with The Athletic, bearing in mind Bayern Munich’s interest in him.

Kane, who is in the last year of his contract at Tottenham, has drawn attention from Bayern who recently proposed a £60 million deal to purchase the Spurs’ main man.

Over the following weeks, Tottenham will have a big decision to make, considering 90 Min’s reports that the 29-year-old is actively pursuing a transfer this summer.

Still, Shearer argues that Levy executed an ingenious play by getting Kane to pledge his long-term commitment to Tottenham five years prior.

Shearer Praises Levy’s Brilliant Strategy

In a conversation with The Athletic, Shearer pointed out that Kane’s previous contract extension enabled Spurs to keep him despite tempting offers from Manchester City two years back.

Nevertheless, he said Levy must make a big decision about the future of the England captain this summer due to Kane’s contractual situation.

“Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, is esteemed in the sport for his relentless bargaining, but this summer represents a turning point,” he asserted.

“Keeping Harry on a six-year contract in 2018 was a masterful move because it fortified the team when Manchester City and others were eyeing him, but it also leaves them in a predicament now.

“They have the options of selling him for a substantial fee or holding their ground, gambling that he’ll agree to renew his contract while risking losing him for free in a year’s time.”

Unquestionably, Kane’s multimillion deal with Tottenham two years ago staved off his potential departure from the club, as Levy was unwavering in his evaluation of Kane’s worth.

Although, it could be argued that Kane’s bargaining power has increased this summer, given his contract has only one year remaining.

Levy might be prepared to gamble, banking on the chance that Tottenham’s all-time leading goal scorer might reconsider his future with the team this season.

However, if Bayern Munich raises its bid significantly, it may give the Tottenham chairman food for thought.
