Spurs’ Rumoured Interest in Everton’s £45m Star, Approved for Transfer

There have been rumours about Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Jordan Pickford from Everton for several months.

For example, in April, Ben Jacobs reported to CaughtOffside, that Spurs were consistently among the top potential clubs for the goalkeeper.

Recently, Football Transfers has suggested that Tottenham have been in touch with Everton regarding a possible transfer.

The contract of Tottenham’s current goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is due to end next year, leaving his future with the club undetermined.

However, other circulating reports suggest that Pickford has no intentions of leaving his current team.

In the middle of June, The Daily Mail shared that the 29-year-old goalkeeper is quite comfortable at Everton currently.

In a recent development, another report suggests Everton has informed Pickford that he is free to transfer this summer.

According to Football Transfers, Everton needs to make some player sales before they can purchase new talent.

Pickford is among players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi who Everton is reportedly keen on offloading.

Reportedly, Manchester United were considering a £45 million bid in June, according to the Daily Star.

Our perspective

Indeed, for Tottenham, Everton and Pickford, this green light might have come a bit too late.

This summer, Tottenham has already enhanced their goalkeeping lineup, purchasing Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.

Tottenham also has Fraser Forster, along with several promising young goalkeepers being prepared.

Without a doubt, England teammate Bukayo Saka considers Pickford as an ‘outstanding’ goalkeeper.

His capabilities have been well-proven both in Premier League and in international matches.

However, Everton has no urgent need to sell, and Pickford isn’t particularly keen on leaving. Therefore, they have significant bargaining power.

Spurs might have considered Pickford if the price were lower, but at £45 million, they’ll likely pass on the opportunity.
