Reports: Spurs’ £180k-per-week player, keen on leaving

Ivan Perisic is apparently eager to bid farewell to Tottenham and return to Croatia with Hajduk Split.

Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth made this revelation during the Last Word on Spurs discussion, speaking about the left-footed player.

Gossips suggesting Perisic’s desire to exit Spurs have been circulating for a while, and according to Sheth, these whispers have emerged primarily from sources in close proximity to the 34-year-old.

In fact, Sheth insists that it is Perisic himself urging an exit from Spurs, but inevitably, the final say will rest with the club.

Perisic keen on departure

Sheth divulged his knowledge on the ex-Inter player’s intentions.

“The situation with Perisic is quite intriguing as, at this point, the initiative to leave is largely coming from the player himself. He longs for a return to Croatia to join Hajduk Split. Despite having a year left on his contract and free to share his sentiments, the final decision will rest with Tottenham and any move for Perisic will be under Tottenham’s conditions,” Sheth mentioned.

Offer him an exit

Perisic wants an exit from Spurs and, frankly, there seems to be little merit in Tottenham insisting on retaining him.

Holding on to a player who wishes to leave, especially one who is earning £180k-a-week and occupies a role that may no longer be required, is rarely beneficial.

Perisic excels best as a left wing-back, and with management speculated to transition towards a conventional back four this season, Perisic may find little purpose.

Given Perisic’s desires to depart, coupled with his hefty earnings and a lack of requirement for his skill set, it seems to make perfect sense to allow him to make an exit from the club.
