Tottenham is said to be keen on courting Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, a footballer who Antonio Conte, the former manager of Spurs, commends as one of the global giants in the field of strikers.
The club from London is anxious to finalize decisions on the future of Harry Kane as the German team, Bayern Munich, is showing a great deal of interest in this English forward.
On the previous Monday, a meeting took place between representatives from Tottenham and executives from Bayern about the possible switch of Kane. Yet, as per Sky Sports, the reigning champions of Bundesliga are still not meeting Spurs’ estimation by £20 million.
Regardless, several strikers have been rumored to be the next recruits of Tottenham amid the possibilities of Kane’s exit from the team.
A post by Football Transfers suggested that Spurs might opt for a temporary transfer for Romelu Lukaku.
Reports suggest that manager Ange Postecoglou exhibits immense interest in securing Lukaku for Tottenham and is willing to pay his weekly wages amounting to £300,000.
Interestingly, Antonio Conte, ex-manager of Spurs, shows immense admiration for Lukaku, the Belgian striker.
Conte’s Perspective on Lukaku
During a dialogue with L’Equipe prior to the 2021 European Championships, Conte expressed his admiration for Lukaku, hailing him as among the top-notch strikers in the world of football.
Previously, Conte has had the opportunity to collaborate with Lukaku during their association at Inter Milan, where Lukaku demonstrated exceptional performance under Conte’s supervision.
“In the current scenario, he stands as one of the supreme strikers globally,” says Conte. “He is an individual who already held notable physical and technical abilities, but we have assisted him to further escalate in these past two years.”
“His contribution in matches, his collaboration with the team, and his attacking fierceness have seen significant improvements.”
Despite a lackluster period at Chelsea, Lukaku’s transfer worth £97.5 million has not delivered the desired outcome as he expressed his wish to revert to Milan soon after his enrolment with the London Club.
In the last season, Lukaku had a provisional stay at Inter Milan, which later refrained from making it a permanent shift after finding out about his dialogue with Juventus.
Lukaku’s skills were prominently visible during his successful tenure with Everton and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League. That said, Lukaku lining up for Spurs in case of Kane’s departure might come as an unexpected twist.
Lukaku has commendable skills, particularly in aerial duels and within the penalty area, but it might be a challenge for him to adapt to Postecoglou’s style of play.
