Tottenham Targets Premier League’s Striking Sensation Who Trounced Arsenal’s Defence Last Season

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur is considering a surprise acquisition of Brentford’s forward Ivan Toney as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

Football Transfers alleges that Spurs could postpone their move for the English international until January.

Speculations about Kane’s continuance at Spurs persist as Bayern Munich is trying to secure the 29-year-old player in the forthcoming summer.

With nearly a year left on his contract, Tottenham’s key player continues to be a hot topic while Daniel Levy, the club’s chairman, has rejected two offers from the Bundesliga champions.

With a potential shift from North London for Kane in the offing, Spurs would be tasked with finding a worthy successor for their top goalscorer of all time.

In light of circumstances, they seem to be considering Toney, who is currently sidelined for eight months due to a violation of FA betting rules.

Tottenham Considering Toney

Football Transfers suggests that Toney has been suggested to Levy by ex-Spurs manager David Pleat.

Spurs had previously chosen Carlos Vinicius over the Brentford forward, but they could return to interest in Toney given the uncertainty around Kane’s career at Tottenham.

Indeed, the source alleges that insiders from Tottenham consider Toney as a fitting substitute for Kane. Tottenham might still move for Toney in this summer if Kane’s continuity encounters issues.

With 21 goals for Brentford last season, Toney has established himself as a formidable striker in the Premier League.

His agility and physical prowess often create trouble for rival defences.

Alan Shearer also acknowledged Toney’s expertise during a match with Arsenal, stating that the striker gave Arsenal’s defenders the runaround, especially the duo Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba.

“He proved to be a thorn in the side of Arsenal’s defenders today, especially their centre-halves. He turned them inside out. Every single header was his, and his ability to control the ball was top-notch,” was Shearer’s take on Match of the Day.

The 27-year-old has received due recognition for his incredible form over the last few seasons, with Mikel Arteta describing him as ‘extraordinary’.

In the event of Kane’s departure from Tottenham, Toney seems to be the best bet.

However, considering Toney’s suspension until January 16, it would be surprising if Spurs finalized a deal for him anytime soon.
