The team has apparently settled on Guglielmo Vicario as the long-run successor to Hugo Lloris. Before settling on the Italian, the team was associated with diverse players.

Before Guglielmo Vicario Was Signed, Unai Simon Was on Tottenham’s Radar

Among those Tottenham was exploring was Unai Simon. The goalkeeper has been given the go-ahead to depart from Athletic this summer.

AS discloses that Tottehman’s offer stood at £17.2 million for Simon, while Athletic was hoping for a payment upward of £43 million for their homegrown player.

With Vicario now officially associated with Spurs, Simon has a fair chance of securing a transfer this season, as Al Hilal is working on a prospective deal. Both the Basque club and Simon seem determined to finalize terms.

Vicario is poised for a tough challenge at Tottenham as he steps in to fill the shoes of the revered captain and club icon, Lloris. Despite a dip in Lloris’s performance in the past few years, his exit will undoubtedly cause a significant gap.

The pressure is heightened further by the club’s association with other goalkeepers during the transfer window. Simon would have been a popular pick amongst several Tottenham fans.

On his prime days, he is an exceptional talent and excels with his footwork. He would have made an exciting inclusion in the team under Ange Postecoglou.

However, Tottenham decided to take a chance on Vicario, deeming it a better fit for the club’s forthcoming phase.
