Tottenham Hotspur Feels ‘Robust’ Defender Could be a Better Fit for Ange Instead of Micky Van de Ven

In a bid to deepen their defensive line this summer, Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in two solid Bundesliga defenders, Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba.

With the start of Ange Postecoglou reign at Spurs already showing marked potential, there is renewed hope and eagerness among fans. With new signings Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison joining the squad recently, the excitement only continues to rise.

However, the emphasis has now shifted towards reinforcing the central defence, with most of the buzz centering around Van de Ven and Tapsoba, according to Football London.

Spurs Believe Edmond Tapsoba is a More Prepared Solution than Micky van de Ven

The moves made by Tottenham deserve recognition.

They’ve found a fitting upgrade with Vicario to fill in the shoes of Hugo Lloris. In Maddison, they acquired one of the premier attacking midfielders in the nation, which is indeed a remarkable addition.

Most importantly, Tottenham is looking to fortify their defence and recent speculations indicate that they are inclined to sign either Edmond Tapsoba or Micky van de Ven.

Tapsoba, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, is currently the preferred choice because he is considered to be a more prepared inclusion for Postecoglou’s defensive strategy given his ball handling skill, strength, and speed.

Despite this, acquiring Tapsoba will be a steep affair, as he’s valued at nearly £50 million, considerably higher than Van de Ven.

It’s worth noting that Tapsoba’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen extends for another three years.

TBR Analysis:

Both Tapsoba and Van de Ven are extremely talented players with impressive potential. However, if Spurs could only afford to sign one, it should be Tapsoba, the Bayer Leverkusen defender.

The international player from Burkina Faso is more seasoned than his counterpart from Wolfsburg, with over 200 professional games to his credit at both club and national levels.

He is a tremendous player, and the official Bundesliga website describes him as a ‘strong and highly quick defender’.

It must be noted that Tapsoba’s price tag makes him more expensive than Maddison, which possibly may persuade Levy to opt for Van de Ven, despite the fact that he may not match up to their preferred defensive target.
