Potential Transfer Deal for Player May Fall through Due to Tottenham’s Inability to Offer European Football

Potential summer transfer deal involving Leicester City’s forward Harvey Barnes and Tottenham Hotspur might not go through as Tottenham are unable to guarantee European football.

Newcastle United and their manager Eddie Howe are also reportedly interested in Barnes, as suggested by The Daily Mail.

Tottenham have already secured the signing of James Maddison over the summer, a deal Newcastle had been interested in, and instead chose to focus on Sandro Tonali.

Maddison’s former Leicester team-mate Harvey Barnes is also on the radar of both clubs.

According to The Guardian, Newcastle is currently considered the front runner to sign Barnes, ahead of Tottenham, West Ham, and Aston Villa.

Barnes might be less likely to consider a move to Tottenham due to their lack of European football opportunity.

Barnes Might Turn Down Tottenham Offer

Leicester is reportedly looking to sell Barnes for roughly £35 million during this summer’s transfer window, as per The Daily Mail.

While Tottenham have shown interest in acquiring Barnes, it is suggested that the player might not find the club appealing due to its inability to compete in European football in the coming season.

Meanwhile, West Ham and Aston Villa can offer Barnes a chance in Europe through the Europa League and Europa Conference League, respectively.

Newcastle could have an edge here, given their secured spot in the Champions League.

Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp has praised Barnes, referring to him as an ‘unbelievable’ talent.

Barnes, aged 25, scored 13 goals in the last Premier League season and was one of the few bright spots in an underperforming Leicester team.

With Tottenham likely to sign Manor Solomon, it seems unnecessary for them to pursue another winger.

Tottenham’s priorities seem to lie in bolstering their defence, with players like Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba reportedly being considered.

Tottenham may have edged out Newcastle for Maddison’s signing in the summer. However, it would be surprising to see them compete with Newcastle for Barnes as well.
