Reports indicate that Tottenham Hotspur is about to secure the enlistment of an extraordinary young defender.
As per James Nursey from The Mirror, Tottenham is on the brink of wrapping up a deal for Blackburn player, Ashley Phillips.
Phillips, an 18-year-old, is expected to officially become a part of Tottenham squad tomorrow, as stated by the journalist in his Twitter update.

Additionally, Phillips will be traveling to Asia soon to join the Tottenham team for their pre-season tour.
The club has had a very successful transfer season so far, under the guidance of their new manager, Ange Postecoglou. Players like Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon have all become a part of Tottenham’s team.
Now, they’re set to strengthen their youth lineup even more by inducting one of the Championship’s finest young players.
Phillips, who reached adulthood just this June, already has 14 competitive matches under his belt for Blackburn Rovers’ senior team.
His first game was in August of the previous year, where he began in the 4-0 League Cup victory against Hartlepool. A few days later, he made his league debut in a starting XI match against West Brom.
While he hasn’t played frequently during the season, it’s undeniable that he’s a promising talent.
‘A promising talent’
Former Rovers coach Tony Mowbray praised Phillips at the tender age of 16, back in 2021.
When asked about the factors that make him such a promising player, he spoke highly to Lancashire Live: “He’s 6ft 4in, swift, mobile, and has a great pass.
“He’s balanced, he can handle the ball with both feet, he’s calm and composed. This young man is outstanding; if you were to mould a defender, this kid checks all boxes.”
“However, let’s not forget he is still very young. This is why he’s training with the first-team, to get him accustomed to the level of intensity. He’s a promising talent, that’s all that can be said.”
“Defenders bear a lot of responsibility; it’s much harder to slot in an exceptional young defender than it is to bring in a young striker, who’s permitted to lose the ball occasionally.
“A defender’s job is to keep the ball away from the net and win individual duels. Though he’s still a boy, he possesses amazing skills. Our hope is for him to advance speedily.”

In light of the compliance with the suggestion of their government to cut back on overseas investment, Rovers’ owners have reportedly trimmed the club’s transfer budget.
Consequently, they may be forced to sell players for acquiring new ones, and Tottenham looks ready to make the most of this situation.
