Clive Allen Dissatisfied with Tottenham Players’ Performance in Pre-Season Match

Today, Clive Allen expressed his dissatisfaction towards the performances of Tottenham Hotspur’s Sergio Reguilon and Pedro Porro in their initial pre-season friendly match.

Despite controlling most parts of the game, Spurs encountered a 3-2 loss to their London adversaries, West Ham United.

Despite overwhelming opportunities to secure victory, Ange Postecoglou’s team was ultimately let down by ineffectual defense.

Although Postecoglou will likely be reassured by the overall performance, Tottenham’s defense could be a potential cause for concern.

Allen specifically criticized Tottenham defenders Reguilon and Porro for their performance in today’s match.

Allen Disheartened by Porro and Reguilon’s Performance

While providing commentary on the game for Spurs Play, Allen was upset by the lackluster defensive efforts made by Porro and Reguilon during West Ham’s first-half goals.

“It wasn’t good enough,” Allen insisted. “We emphasized the crucial importance of improving our defenses.

Noting Reguilon’s and Porro’s positioning mistakes, Allen stated, “Reguilon clears from the corner but he’s only focused on the ball, the full backs are on opposite sides rather than their allocated positions.”

Allen also criticized Porro for failing to block Jarrod Bowen’s crossing, and Reguilon for losing track of Danny Ings.

According to Allen, both these oversights led to Bowen’s ability to pass the ball and make a successful attempt at goal.

Both Porro and Reguilon adopted new roles for today’s match, frequently moving into the midfield when Tottenham was in control of the ball.

After his transfer from Sporting Lisbon in January, Porro showed some defensive weakness in the last season, which appeared again in today’s match. Although his attacking prowess was evident, the 23-year-old needs to improve his defensive abilities to be truly effective.

For Reguilon, he didn’t get plenty of playing time with Atletico Madrid last season, so some adjustment period will be needed.

The overall attack from both players was impressive today, but as Allen pointed out, there’s a solid need for defensive improvements.
