Neil Ruddock, TalkSPORT analyst, has expressed his disbelief that more clubs are not vying for the signature of Tottenham Hotspur player, Harry Kane, this summer.
Kane’s career prospects have been a major topic in recent times, with Bayern Munich demonstrating significant interest.
The 29-year-old has entered the last year of his contract with Spurs, and despite early positive signs from Ange Postecoglou, The Guardian states Kane has no plans to renew his contract within this transfer window.
For now, Bayern appears to be the only team contending for Kane, as Real Madrid and Manchester United have both scaled back their interest.
Ruddock, meanwhile, has urged Kane to honour his contract with Tottenham and hold out for a ‘bigger’ club next summer.
Ruddock Left Puzzled by Kane Interest
While speaking on TalkSPORT, Ruddock expressed bewilderment that only Bayern Munich have made moves for Kane this summer.
His words: “Not to slight Bayern Munich, but don’t you think Harry Kane is slightly let down that Bayern are the only interested team?”
“If he stays, he can sign freely with any club in the world,” he continued. “Every club in the world would want him. That’s a decision for him to make.
“We can suggest this or that but ultimately, it’s Harry Kane’s call. He’s got his family to consider as well as his young children. There are numerous factors in your mind to consider.”
Ruddock further said: “I reckon it’s just one of those things, they’re the frontrunners for the league, aren’t they? That’s the major challenge [winning the Champions League]. Getting Harry Kane would level the playing field.
“Mane did not live up to the expectations of the signing. Bayern Munich made the right call, let’s pay up, go for the Champions League because next year we won’t have this opportunity as he’ll opt for more significant and superior clubs. That’s the harsh reality for Bayern Munich.
“But truth be told, I’m amazed that Bayern is the only grand team pursuing him.”
It’s reasonable to argue that Tottenham’s demands could be the reason for the lack of interest in Kane this summer.
Both Madrid and United have retracted their interest for this reason, while Bayern are far from reaching Spurs’ price tag.
Most clubs are likely holding off for the ‘amazing’ striker to become a free agent next summer, instead of shelling out at least £100 million now.
Naturally, Spurs remain hopeful that Kane could be persuaded to commit to a new agreement over the next year. A positive beginning under Postecoglou might actually make this a viable option for the England player.
