Despite having Antonio Conte known for his defensive strategies, Tottenham struggled with conceding goals last season.
A number of centre-backs such as Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga have been rumored to be on their way out.
Despite this, Tottenham has yet to bring on board a new central defender, although there seems to be a possibility of Clement Lenglet returning.
The right-back position has consistently been problematic.
Postecoglou has options in Pedro Porro, Emerson Royal, and Djed Spence for the summer.
However, with Tottenham’s interest in signing Wilfried Singo, it shows dissatisfaction with their present choices.
The fact that Spurs have just exercised their option to buy Porro suggests that the prospects of the two other defenders could be in jeopardy.
Tottenham Eyeing Singo from Torino
As per a Tuttosport report, Tottenham’s admiration for Singo has never been a secret.
With only one year remaining on his contract and Torino having secured Raoul Bellanova as his replacement, it seems Singo is for sale. Torino is willing to accept an offer of £10.3m from Spurs this summer.
Last season, Singo made two goals and provided two assists, typically aligning as a right wing-back.
Tottenham has long been associated with Singo’s transfer, despite speculations about this transfer this summer seeming remote.
Given that Spurs already have three right-back options, bringing in a fourth may create unnecessary complications.
Being an aggressive full-back, Singo might not fit into Postecoglou’s game plan.
After a prolonged period of playing with wing-backs, Tottenham’s current group must adjust to a new tactical approach.
Singo, akin to Ivan Perisic, could step in as a winger when needed, however, the recent addition of Manor Solomon minimises the requirement for a flexible right-sided player.
Although predominantly a left winger, Solomon was occasionally utilised on the right by Fulham’s manager, Marco Silva, last season.
Although it would be unexpected for Tottenham to make a move for Singo given their other priorities, they might want to keep their current options on their toes.
