Tottenham Engage in Negotiations Over Top-Tier French Footballer this Weekend

Tottenham is making moves to bring on new defenders, though Clement Lenglet is not yet officially a part of their team.

Lenglet temporarily joined Spurs last season, and his impressive performance has sparked interest in a long-term contract.

Presently, an agreement between Spurs and Barcelona where Lenglet currently plays, is yet to be finalized.

The story may soon take a turn, according to Sport, which says that Tottenham and Barcelona have initiated conversations with Lenglet’s agents this past weekend, potentially leading to a deal.

The sticking point in the negotiation seems to be the transfer fee that Tottenham is willing to shell out. According to Sport, while Barcelona is holding out for an approximate £13m, Tottenham’s current proposed amount is only around £8m.

Lenglet, touted as a ‘world-class’ competitor by Didier Deschamps, reportedly is open to a move back to North London provided that acceptable terms can be agreed upon.

Beyond Lenglet, Tottenham is actively looking for additional defenders. This includes negotiations with Edmund Tapsoba and considerations for Micky van de Ven.

So far, the new members of the Spurs team include James Maddison and goalkeeper Vicario. Nevertheless, as Ange Postecoglou aims to strengthen the squad further, more signings are predicted to come.

Justifying the Right Price

Even though Clement Lenglet’s abilities on the field last season may not have matched up to someone like Ledley King, Tottenham’s willingness to invest around £10m on him might be justified.

At present, discussions between Barcelona and Tottenham seem stuck on the issue of the transfer fee. However, it is anticipated that eventually, an agreement will be reached, culminating in Lenglet securing a permanent position at Tottenham.

The ticking clock adds pressure. Tottenham urgently needs to seal more deals, and securing Lenglet feels like the logical next step. Considering the relatively minor gap in the negotiations, it should be feasible to finalize this deal.
