Dean Jones, a noted journalist, indicates that Harry Maguire, a potential recruit for Tottenham Hotspur, might be up for grabs for approximately £30 million in the upcoming summer.
In conversation with GiveMeSport, Jones discusses the prospect of Maguire’s transfer and posits that Manchester United are anticipating a ‘significant deficit’ on the sale of the English player.
Having already secured players such as Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon, Tottenham seems to be now focusing on fortifying their defence.
Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen and Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg appear to be the top priority targets for the club at present. Nonetheless, rumours of Harry Maguire moving to North London are also swirling.
In fact, a recent publication by The Sun implied that Tottenham is eyeing Maguire. Jones speculates that the English international player could depart from Old Trafford for a mere £30 million this summer.
Maguire May Depart United for £30 million
Jones confides to GiveMeSport that United aims to recover at least half of the £80 million they initially spent on Maguire in 2019.
Even though West Ham has also demonstrated interest in signing the 30-year-old player, Jones is skeptical that United will fetch £40 million for the defender.
“However, West Ham United is more inclined towards a loan deal, which doesn’t appear probable,” says Jones. “Therefore, it’s all about finding Maguire a new club and ascertaining his current market worth.
“In any case, Man United will undergo a substantial loss, considering his £80m acquisition cost. The value of this asset has been dwindling over recent years.
“There’s still a faint hope that they might recoup £40m, but I sincerely doubt that’s going to happen. I believe that £30m is the highest they can realistically expect.
“But even at that price, it’s crucial to find a suitable club willing to take him on.”
Maguire’s confidence and performance at Old Trafford have suffered over recent years.
The ex-Leicester City man was also recently stripped of his United captaincy, making it probable that he will be transferred this summer.
Unquestionably, Tottenham is in dire need of reinforcing their defensive line-up and Maguire, who has had his fair share of ‘exceptional’ performances, particularly with the England team, would be a valuable addition.
However, it would be unexpected to see Spurs bidding for the centre-back, considering, he does not seem to align with the preferred game style of the club’s figurehead Ange Postecoglou.
