Spurs’ 26-year-old player craved Newcastle transfer, reports Sky journalist

James Maddison, a recently signed player for Tottenham, had initially hoped to move to Newcastle United, as per latest information.

Sky Sports Reporter Pete Graves indicated this interesting aspect of the 26-year-old player’s transfer.

As part of the Transfer Talk Podcast discussion where he revealed how Newcastle missed an opportunity to get Maddison, Graves mentioned that even this week, he heard from sources close to the player that Maddison’s preference was towards Newcastle.

Unfortunately for the Magpies, Tottenham successfully landed Maddison by offering him a higher salary, which eventually influenced his decision.

Graves offered further insights into the desire of the Spurs’ midfielder.

“Maddison was favored by many and I was informed by some sources near Maddison that Maddison truly wished for a transfer to Newcastle, but he eventually moved to Spurs. Finally, his decision was driven by salary differences as Newcastle seems to have a strict salary cap in place,” shed Graves.

Missed Opportunity

Possibly, moving to Newcastle would have been a better choice for Maddison.

Yes, salary plays a significant role, but Newcastle’s offer would not have been too low to consider as well.

From a gameplay perspective, Newcastle could have been a better choice for the player.

Newcastle, as the wealthiest club worldwide, boasts an exciting development plan and will participate in the Champions League next season.

On the other hand, Spurs currently have no participation in European football, they have a new manager with no proven record, and they may lose their star player.

We believe that moving to Newcastle would have aligned more with Maddison’s career goals than moving to Spurs.
