In a pre-season friendly today, Tottenham Hotspur achieved a 5-1 victory over the Singapore Premier League team, Lion City Sailors, with Giovani Lo Celso once again catching attention.
For the first-half match, Postecoglou named James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma as the midfield team, with Lo Celso joining from the bench for the second half, just as he did against West Ham last week.
Tottenham fell behind during the 13th minute of the game as the Lion City Sailors scored unexpectedly. Shortly before half-time, Harry Kane equalised from a penalty that resulted from a foul against Sarr within the penalty box.
However, remarkably, the second-half of the game saw Tottenham successfully turnover the game. Despite Richarlison’s standout performance with a hat-trick, Lo Celso’s match was certainly noted by Postecoglou.

Lo Celso might be the suitable midfield partner for Maddison
There was an expectation that Lo Celso would leave this summer after not breaking into the Spurs’ team under Antonio Conte’s management. The Argentine player has been on loan at Villarreal for the past one and a half year and has performed well in La Liga once again.
However, after his last two noteworthy performances for Spurs, he may be the right player to pair with James Maddison in the midfield.
Lo Celso once again found himself on the scoreboard today after scoring against West Ham last week. The 27-year-old demonstrated great synergy with Ivan Perisic and Sergio Reguilon on the left flank.
Lo Celso continually posed a threat for Spurs and produced some remarkable moments near the opponent’s penalty area.
Postecoglou is yet to play the Argentine international along with Maddison, but so far, during pre-season, Lo Celso has stood out among the Spurs’ midfield choices.

The team managed by Postecoglou comprises of a deeper-lying midfielder and two advanced No8s, with Yves Bissouma projected to fulfill the No6 role.
However, Lo Celso’s performances indicate that he could be the most suitable candidate to play next to Maddison in a more advanced position.
In the first half today, Maddison also put on a good show and even though Sarr demonstrated another promising performance, Lo Celso seems to be flourishing under Postecoglou’s guidance.
