Heurelho Gomes is backing Tottenham Hotspur player Richarlison to have an impressive season next year.
Gomes mentioned his fellow Brazilian during his appearance on the Off The Shelf Podcast.
The former Spurs goalkeeper talked about his tenure at the team and recounted his rapport with defenders Michael Dawson and Ledley King.
During his time, Gomes appeared 135 times for Spurs across different tournaments, greatly contributing to their return to the Champions League.
The ex-goalkeeper, despite his 11 caps for Brazil, continues to follow Tottenham closely.
Gomes discloses that he played a role in facilitating Richarlison’s move to Tottenham the previous summer.
The forward, who earns £90k weekly, was secured in a £60m deal but unfortunately didn’t meet the expectations set for him in the last season.
However, Gomes has expressed confidence that Richarlison will perform better in the coming season and highlights the player’s struggles off the pitch which could have impacted his performance.
The Brazilian striker was fortunate to have a strong support system, with players like Emerson Royal and Lucas Moura by his side, to help him acclimate to the team.
Gomes Supports Richarlison’s Potential to Excel at Tottenham
When asked about Richarlison’s prospects at Tottenham, Gomes said, “I still believe he will come good. The real Richarlison is yet to been seen, but he will soon make his mark.”
“Despite facing challenging times, of which many might not be aware, he has shown great strength.”
“Despite recently scoring his first goal, he has consistently played at a high level. In my view, he is a great addition to the team.”
“He’s the kind of player who wants to excel and do his best. But remember, it’s not just about the player but also about external factors.
“He’s had a tough time but his mental condition has improved significantly now.”
Richarlison displayed his goal-scoring abilities during a recent match, producing a hat-trick against Lion City Sailors.
The striker’s work ethic won praise from Ange Postecoglou, who acknowledged Richarlison’s persistent effort, irrespective of last season’s scoring shortfall.
Gomes hopes that Richarlison will continue the tradition of Brazilian players doing well at Tottenham.
While the potential departure of Harry Kane this summer could be a significant setback for Spurs, it might provide the 26-year-old Richarlison with numerous opportunities next season.
