Chelsea’s Defender Eyeing a £40m Transfer Raises Uncertainties About Tottenham’s Deal for Micky van de Ven

There have been reports suggesting Tottenham Hotspur’s plans to bolster their defence in the near future.

Tottenham’s defence performance was hardly satisfactory last season, leading Ange Postecoglou, the new coach, to contemplate bringing in new defenders.

Recently, two defenders are seen to be linked more frequently with Tottenham.

Edmond Tapsoba and Micky van de Ven are the two names making the news lately.

However, Tottenham are said to be casting their eyes on Chelsea’s defender Levi Colwill as well.

Journalist Nizaar Kinsella has brought further light on Tottenham’s interest in the player from Blues.

According to Kinsella on Twitter, Tottenham is “another club that like Levi Colwill”.

Kinsella also speculated that Tottenham’s on-going discussion with Van de Ven “could fall apart”.

Moreover, not just Tottenham, but other clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, and Brighton are reportedly showing interest in him.

Nevertheless, Chelsea appears reluctant to let him go, and Kinsella believes Colwill is likely to continue with them.

Our Take

Colwill is an exceptionally gifted young defender who possesses immense talent and potential for growth.

He has shown his capabilities in the Premier League, where he impressed everyone while playing on loan for Brighton last season.

Reportedly, based on a Daily Mail report, the Seagulls are ready to pay a handsome £40million to sign him on a full-time basis.

Colwill’s performance in the England Under-21 team, when they won the European championships earlier this summer, was commendable as well.

Securing him as a signing could be a challenging task for Tottenham or any other interested parties, but his exceptional skills make any efforts worthwhile.

What’s concerning is the potential fall-through of Tottenham’s discussions with Van de Ven, as pointed out by Kinsella.

We certainly hope Tottenham has effective backup plans and the ability to shift their focus swiftly in case this happens.
