In spite of their underperforming defense in the previous season, they seem to have neglected this critical area during the transfer period. Presently, they have frittered away a few opportunities to strengthen their defense, losing some compared to the preceding season.
Regardless, the start of a new season is still two weeks away and there’s a chance for Tottenham to make some significant transfers. The Athletic reports that the team is committed to bolstering its defense.

Ongoing talks with Edmond Tapsoba and Micky Van de Ven are being held by the club. Still, Tottenham isn’t shutting down the idea of rehiring Clement Lenglet according to the report.
Previously termed as an ‘exceptional’ center-back, Lenglet had spent the last season with Spurs on loan. The club seems inclined towards making this reunion a permanent one.
It’s not new for Tottenham and Lenglet’s names to be mentioned together. There have been past mentions of them re-signing Lenglet for a nominal price, especially with the support of Daniel Levy, as revealed by Graeme Bailey.

It has been well-established that Barcelona does not need Lenglet anymore and is looking to unload him. There are even talks about him leaving as a free agent at the end of this summer.
Considering the current circumstances, this could be a smart play for Spurs.
Though Lenglet may not be the first choice for a team aiming for the Premier League’s top four, he would undoubtedly be a reliable backup. He delivered a satisfactory performance last season, and while he might not resolve all of Tottenham’s defensive issues, his presence would help cover a noticeable weakness in the team.
