Postecoglou considers selling, yet Tottenham turns down £16m bid for ‘remarkable’ player

Sale talks between Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid continue, the subject being midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Danish player, counted among several from Spurs, could potentially be released as per Ange Postecoglou’s views. The freshly appointed manager of Tottenham reportedly seeks to infuse more agility and flexibility in the team’s midfield, a move implying Hojbjerg’s departure.

The possibility of Hojbjerg moving to Atletico has been a topic of discussion for some time now. The Times reveals, however, that Tottenham currently stands tough, having rejected a £16m offer for the Danish star.

The Times also suggests an eventual green light for Hojbjerg’s deal. Reportedly, Spurs’ asking price is approximately £25m, a figure Atletico appears unwilling to meet.

Yet, since Postecoglou aims to offload existing players to accommodate new recruitments, it’s anticipated that the deal will settle at a mid-range price.

While the likes of Yves Bissouma prepare for more significant roles and with the recruitment of James Maddison, Hojbjerg, who has been regular under the previous managers, gets the green light to exit.

Tottenham purchased him from Southampton at a mere £15m a couple of years ago. Having earned praises as ‘incredible’ by Hugo Lloris, Hojbjerg’s value has only amplified since his move, and it seems likely that his sell-off will also fetch a profit.

Strike a deal before the time lapse

Tottenham has to hasten its decision-making regarding player sales and recruitments. The new season is around the corner, and any delay could lead to a last-minute rush nearing the end of August.

Hojbjerg deserves recognition and respect, and a transition to Atletico can be beneficial for him.

Though he hasn’t done anything wrong and his services might still be utilised if he decides to stay, Tottenham’s journey forward under Postecoglou necessitates this deal to be sealed promptly.
