Paul Merson has confessed that he can’t help but wonder how many goals Harry Kane might net in the upcoming season, now that Tottenham Hotspur have secured James Maddison.

As speculations about the 29-year-old’s future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium go on, Merson aired his views during an interview with Sky Sports.

According to reports from The Athletic, Bayern Munich are hopeful of securing Kane, who is in the final year of his contract with Spurs.

It would be shocking to see Harry Kane exit the Premier League during this transfer window. While the Bavarian titans are an esteemed club which Kane might be willing to play for, he might find a more attractive deal if he holds out for another year.

Merson encourages Maddison to aid Kane in scoring more goals

Merson is of the opinion that Kane should not make a move to the Bundesliga, and believes that Tottenham’s £40 million recruit could assist the forward in scoring even more in the upcoming season – if he decides to stay.

“He netted 30 league goals last term for Tottenham single-handed. With James Maddison joining him at Spurs, one can’t help but wonder the number of goals he’ll score,” he said during his Sky Sports interview.

“For me, it’s hard to see why Kane would opt to join Bayern Munich. Why would he want to help them clinch the Bundesliga title again, just as he’s nearing Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record?”

It would be intriguing to find out what Kane’s plans for the immediate future are, especially considering he hasn’t explicitly said that he’ll be staying with Tottenham for the new season.

Not many players would make such a commitment unless a new contract was in the works. Given that this hasn’t happened, there’s probably going to be more speculation till his prospective buyers withdraw their interest.

Kane should see the benefits of remaining with Tottenham this season over settling for a less preferred alternative.

While clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid may not appear eager at the moment, it is conceivable that they will show interest a year later when his contract is due to expire.

And it is entirely possible that Kane is content where he is at Spurs.
