25-Year-Old Tottenham Footballer Reportedly Presented with Offers from Other Teams

Cristian Romero, defender for Tottenham Hotspur, has divulged that there were overtures made for him to transfer away from the team throughout the summer.

While speaking with Football London, Romero shared some insights into his practice routine leading up to the new playing season.

This week, a chance to see Cristian Romero in action was denied to Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham team manager.

It was planned for Romero to start with Ben Davies in the Sunday’s match against Leicester City. Unfortunately, it was called off due to heavy rainfall that resulted in a waterlogged pitch.

Predictions suggest that Romero will secure his place as Postecoglou’s front-choice centre-back once the Premier League reconvenes the following month.

Spurs are still concerned with acquiring at least one more defender who could potentially play alongside him.

However, Romero has confirmed that he was issued offers to leave Tottenham this summer.

After joining on an initial loan, this £46m defender has been a signed player of the club for just a year.

Although selling him may generate a handsome profit for Tottenham, it doesn’t seem like a logical move.

Romero Confirms That He Was Offered to Depart from Tottenham

In discussing his future with Football London, Romero stated: “I would consider exiting the club if I didn’t harbor the same passion [for Spurs as I do for Argentina].

“I am not content with the way the previous season ended for me and as I’ve acknowledged previously, it was far from the best season but when presented with offers from other clubs to transfer for this coming season, I declined because I wish to have my prime years here”

Undoubtedly, many Spurs supporters will breathe a sigh of relief knowing their top centre-back isn’t leaving this summer.

Currently, Tottenham is making efforts to sign another defender to pair with him.

Footballers Edmond Tapsoba and Micky Van de Ven have both been identified as suitable candidates to join him.

Interest is also shown in Tosin Adarabioyo, the Fulham centre-back, who seems to be up for grabs this summer.

After his loan spell in North London last season, Clement Lenglet could make a return to Spurs.

Even with the offers extended to Romero to leave Tottenham, it’s unlikely that the club would consider them.

For Spurs to progress, it’s crucial to have the Argentinean in the squad performing at his optimum best.
