Reports suggest that Ange Postecoglou has targeted James Maddison to be his inaugural signing for Tottenham Hotspur this upcoming season.

As per the report by 90 Min, Spurs are fervently seeking to reach consensus with Leicester over Maddison’s transfer.

The first addition to Tottenham’s lineup under Postecoglou is on the horizon, with Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli likely making his way to North London this week.

It’s anticipated that Vicario could take over from the team’s current captain, Hugo Lloris, who appears poised for an exit from Spurs this season.

However, it appears that Maddison was Postecoglou’s top choice to be brought onboard before any other prospects.

The former Celtic manager is reportedly very interested in bringing the accomplished player from Leicester to his squad.

As The Athletic reported today, Tottenham seems to be nearing the final stages of striking a deal to obtain Maddison, with an agreement expected with Leicester sometime within the week.

Maddison, now 26, has delivered ‘exemplary’ performances for Leicester over the previous five seasons, which explains why Postecoglou has been so keen to secure him.

Maddison could enhance Tottenham’s dynamism in the central field which currently lacks creativity.

Postecoglou’s arrival is likely to significantly alter Tottenham’s strategy compared to the more conservative approaches followed by preceding managers.
