Maddison disclosed how Postecoglou convinced him to make the move to Tottenham.
As confided to Tottenham’s official website, Maddison revealed some apprehensions before speaking with the new Spurs boss.

Maddison recalls a ‘meaningful discussion’ with Postecoglou, sharing a statement he believes the Australian wouldn’t mind him revealing.

“Speaking with the manager was crucial, given the certain amount of unfamiliarity. A substantive conversation with him, getting his perspective on various things, understanding his vision for Spurs this season… One thing he told me over the phone, which I hope he won’t begrudge me for revealing, was, ‘Whether you decide to join or not, the Spurs team you’ll see under me will be completely different,’ and that was something that resonated with me,” conveyed Maddison.
The English international will now be an essential component for Tottenham, symbolising the shift in approach under Postecoglou’s management.
It’s difficult to foresee what role Maddison would have had under Antonio Conte, or if he would have been used to his best potential.
